She began her career as a prosecutor of domestic violence, sex crimes, and child abuse.\u00a0\u00a0In private practice,\u00a0she successfully represented a coalition of battered women\u2019s organizations arguing\u00a0<i>amici curiae<\/i>\u00a0against a ruling allowing men who murdered wives or girlfriends to invoke the victim\u2019s \u201cnagging\u201d as grounds for a reduced charge.\u00a0\u00a0She then served as a human rights attorney with Equality Now, where\u00a0she helped draft New York\u2019s first anti-trafficking statute.<\/p>\n<p>As president \/ chair of the National Organization for Women-NYC she helped draft NY&#8217;s anti-strangulation statute and\u00a0helped lead a successful campaign to eliminate New York\u2019s statute of limitations on rape.\u00a0\u00a0She has trained prosecutors on interviewing crime victims and served as an adjunct professor at Hunter College.<\/p>\n<p>As Director of Women\u2019s Equal Justice, she partners with survivor-leaders to improve the justice system\u2019s response to the violent and under-prosecuted\u00a0crime of drug-facilitated sexual\u00a0assault, and to demand access to justice for gender-based violence as a civil right.<\/p>\n\n                <\/div>\n                <div class=\"column is-12-tablet is-6-desktop is-5-fullhd is-offset-2-fullhd\" data-aos=\"fade-left\">\n\n                    \n                    \n                        <div class=\"title-block is-hidden-touch\">\n                            <div class=\"outer\">\n                                <div class=\"inner left\">\n                                    <h2>\n                                        &nbsp;                                    <\/h2>\n                                <\/div>\n                            <\/div>\n                        <\/div>\n\n                    \n                    <h3><strong>Mona Sinha, Chief Executive Officer, Equality Now<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Mona Sinha is a globally recognized advocate for gender equality. She brings over 25 years of experience strengthening mission-driven organizations to Equality Now. Aligning her passion for social justice and women\u2019s empowerment with her early experience working in the corporate sector, she has enabled over 90 organizations that unlock the economic potential and protect the legal rights of women, girls, and gender non-conforming people.<\/p>\n<p>With her deep understanding of the women\u2019s rights ecosystem, Mona has led and catalyzed over $1 billion to fund progressive projects, initiatives, and grassroots movements that elevate women\u2019s economic agency and amplify women leaders. All on a global scale. Mona serves on several nonprofit boards focusing on governance, strategy, and sustainability.\u00a0 She is the Vice Chair of the Executive Council of the Smithsonian American Women\u2019s History Museum, slated to be built on the Washington Mall within the decade. She is an Advisory Board member of the Tamer Institute for Social Enterprise at Columbia University and serves on the Tamer Venture Fund Board.<\/p>\n<p>Formerly, Mona chaired the Women Moving Millions\u2019 Board and Equal Rights Amendment Coalition\u2019s Fund for Women\u2019s Equality. She is a trustee emerita (Vice Chair) of her alma mater, Smith College. In 2022, she was awarded the Smith College Medal for her bold feminist leadership in stewarding a trans-inclusive admissions policy and her critical role in fundraising $486M for the school\u2019s Women for the World campaign.<\/p>\n<p>She has served in various leadership capacities on the Boards of Connected Women Leaders, Apne Aap International, Columbia Global Mental Health Program in partnership with WHO, Breakthrough USA, and the University of Pennsylvania\u2019s Center for High Impact Philanthropy. She co-founded the Asian Women\u2019s Leadership University College in Malaysia to bring the liberal arts education model to women across the region.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Antonia Kirkland, Director, Legal Equality &amp; UN Liaison, Equality Now<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Antonia Kirkland is a human rights lawyer with an intricate working knowledge of how to use international law and human rights mechanisms to advance gender equality for all women and girls. She is currently the Director, Legal Equality &amp; UN Liaison at Equality Now. In this role, Antonia provides thought leadership and technical legal support to hold governments accountable under international law to uphold all women\u2019s and girls\u2019 rights.<\/p>\n<p>She serves on the Steering Committees of UN Women\u2019s Equality in Law for Women and Girls by 2030, the Global Campaign for Equal Nationality Rights, and the Global Campaign for Equality in Family Law, and served on the Global Programme Advisory Committee (GPAC) of the United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence against Women for 10 years.
