The joint statement was made by <a href=\"https:\/\/alliancesforafrica.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Alliances for Africa,<\/a>\u00a0on behalf of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.soawr.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Solidarity for African Women&#8217;s Rights (SOAWR)<\/a>, of which Equality Now is a member.<\/p>\n\n submissions detail concerns about the rights of women and girls across Africa, including:<\/p>\n<p><!-- \/wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:list --><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<li>Ensuring COVID-19 recovery plans take into account the gendered impact of the pandemic across Africa by urging the Commission to develop guidelines on human rights-based and gender sensitive approaches to government-led post-COVID-19 recovery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Raising concerns about reports of sexual violence against women in parts of Ethiopia, particularly the conflict-hit Tigray region, and calling for an immediate inquiry in collaboration with relevant national,\u00a0regional and global actors responsible for the promotion and protection of the rights of women to\u00a0redress any violations of women\u2019s rights in the Tigray region, including through prosecutions under international criminal law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><!-- \/wp:list-item --> <!-- wp:list-item --><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Continuing to urge the remaining 13 AU member states \u2013 Botswana, Burundi, Central African Republic, Chad, Egypt, Eritrea, Madagascar, Morocco, Niger, Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Somalia, South Sudan, and Sudan \u2013 to urgently ratify the Maputo Protocol to ensure that the women and girls in these countries enjoy their rights as enshrined in the
