recent developments to put in place a framework for the protection of women\u2019s\u00a0rights and combating gender-based violence, Uzbekistan\u2019s legal system continues to\u00a0provide a number of opportunities for perpetrators to escape criminal liability or\u00a0punishment, namely through the way sexual violence crimes are defined; allowing for the\u00a0direct release of a perpetrator from liability or punishment in certain circumstances; and through the way sexual violence crimes are investigated and prosecuted, including with\u00a0respect to adolescent girls.<\/p>\n\n
