However, harmful practices and limited protections in customary contexts continue to affect women and girls. Closing these gaps and improving enforcement and service delivery remain critical.<\/p>\n<p><b>Key recommendations:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Strengthen enforcement of laws prohibiting child marriage<\/b>, including penalties for traditional and religious authorities involved in illegal unions.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Expand survivor-centred support services<\/b>, especially in rural areas, by increasing the reach of multisectoral mechanisms, police units, and mobile clinics.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Ensure consistent application of the Family Law Act<\/b>, particularly in cases involving domestic violence and abuse.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Improve access to justice<\/b> by training police, prosecutors, and judges on trauma-informed GBV response and rights-based procedures.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Reform customary marriage practices<\/b>, including by addressing polygamy in unregistered unions, to ensure equal protection and legal security for women.<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Increase community awareness and prevention efforts<\/b> to address harmful social narratives which normalise GBV and promote
