Raaya Gomez

Raaya Gomez joined Equality Now as Legal Fellow in 2024. She is an Attorney-at-Law and holds Bachelor of Laws degrees (LL.B.) from the University of Colombo and the University of London International Programmes. She graduated with a Master of Laws (LLM) from Yale Law School in 2022. At Yale Law School, Raaya focused her studies on international law, international human rights, and gender. She was also a member of the Allard K. Lowenstein International Human Rights Clinic. Prior to her LLM, she worked in legal research, policy and practice in Sri Lanka.

Raaya has also worked on human rights research projects with the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) and International Women’s Rights Action Watch Asia Pacific. More recently, she worked with the Women’s Rights Division of Human Rights Watch on their work pertaining to violence and harassment in the world of work. In 2023, she received one of the Robina Foundation Post-Graduate Fellowships in International Human Rights from the Schell Center for International Human Rights at Yale Law School to work at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, France. During her fellowship year she clerked for a judge at the Court and worked for the Directorate of the Jurisconsult.

Raaya is based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. In her free time Raaya enjoys reading, travelling, trying new cafes, and spending time with friends and family. She speaks English and Sinhala.
