Key recommendations

This submission details our concerns about prevailing gender discrimination against Emirati women, who are denied the right to confer nationality on their children and spouses on an equal basis with men, with severe consequences for women and their families. We are particularly concerned by the government’s response to the CEDAW Committee regarding the nationality law in its most recent Response to the List of Issues, which illustrates an unwillingness to take action to amend the law to eliminate the discrimination, in line with its CEDAW obligations.
