In September 2020, the Government of Makueni County in collaboration with Equality Now hosted a webinar to champion and advocate for the protection of children’s rights in response to the increased number of child abuse cases reported in Kenya.

The webinar brought together key duty bearers with the aim of holding them to account on the role that they play in strengthening protection and justice systems for children in Kenya.

While this conference is spearheaded by the Makueni county government, the often silent pandemic – that is defilement – needs nationwide attention.

Speakers:
Prof. Kivutha Kibwana, Governor Makueni County
Hon. Adelina Mwau, Deputy Governor Makueni County
Justice Martha Koome, National Council on the Administration of Justice
Hon. Douglas Mbilu, Speaker County Assembly of Makueni
Justice Teresia Matheka, Judge High Court of Kenya
Representatives from Teachers Service Commission and religious leaders

Moderator:
Florence Machio, Campaigns Officer, Equality Now
