As the Global Media Coordinator, Maithreyi works closely with the Global Head of Media to support the implementation of Equality Now’s advocacy and media strategies in order to advance its programmatic aims and build positive public and media engagement about the organisation and its campaign work.

Maithreyi is a multimedia professional with comprehensive experience in providing communication support for local independent non-profit organisations and working as a video journalist both in India and France. Before relocating to Paris, she was a video journalist reporting on issues related to internal migration, forest rights, droughts and rural healthcare across various states in India. Before that, she spent a good two years working as a development professional, roaming India’s remote and rural corners, conducting research, documentation and content creation for non-profits.

Maithreyi has a joint Master’s degree in Journalism and International Affairs from Sciences Po in Paris. What inspires her the most is the everyday lives of women around her, their grit and determination to fight for their rightful place in society against all odds. She also firmly believes that it’s extremely important to continuously look inwards and reflect on one’s biases to become a better feminist and a human being.

Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, particularly trying out new cuisines. Her current obsession is experimenting with traditional French recipes. Other hobbies include reading and painting. She is currently trying to teach herself how to do water colouring from YouTube tutorials.

Born and raised in Chennai, India, Maithreyi currently resides in Paris, France. She is available for interviews in English, Tamil, Hindi and French.
