Our Team
Santana joined Equality Now in June 2024 as Programme Officer, End Harmful Practices. She is a dedicated human rights lawyer with extensive experience in legal research, project management, and advocacy. With an LLB from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law, Santana has been an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya since 2016. Before joining Equality Now, she worked at the Kenya Section of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ Kenya) and the Initiative for Strategic Litigation in Africa (ISLA).
Throughout her career, Santana successfully led campaigns, spearheaded research initiatives to promote access to justice for marginalized and minority groups, contributed to policy development, served as a trial monitor for genocide cases in Rwanda, and effectively coordinated paralegals to monitor and document human rights at the grassroots level. She has also executed various projects aimed at promoting the rights of marginalized groups.
Santana aspires to contribute to dismantling systemic barriers that perpetuate gender inequality by advocating for policies and practices that promote women’s rights and empowerment. Santana is based in Nairobi, Kenya. She speaks English and Swahili fluently and is proficient in basic French. In her free time, Santana enjoys reading and traveling.
