Doubling down on equality
4 min read
I am honoured to share that Equality Now has received a second generous gift from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, whose bold, trust-based approach to giving is transforming what’s possible for social justice movements, especially in a time when funding for gender equality is scarce. We offer our deepest gratitude to her for believing in our mission, our team, and the power of legal equality to change lives.
MacKenzie Scott’s philanthropy is not only changing how giving works but redefining what change can look like. One catalytic phone call affirming our work. No restrictions. Just trust.
Her first gift, in 2022, supercharged our Future Proofing Equality strategy (2022-2025) by seeding our digital rights work, accelerating reforms in family law, and expanding an already powerful portfolio. That support helped shape over 55 legal reforms, enabling us to leverage further resources to impact the lives of more than 256 million women and girls globally.
This second gift is a powerful endorsement of our mission and work: that legal equality is a catalyst for lasting change. And it is a testament to the courage, resilience, and vision of our global team, our partners, and the communities we stand with every day.
It comes at a defining moment, enabling us to bring our next five-year strategy, Securing Rights, Transforming Futures (2026–2030), to life. It’s a bold response to the rising tide of anti-rights backlash, the escalation of online and offline digital violence, and the persistence of systemic discrimination. At its heart is a realisable vision: a just future where every woman and girl can live freely, safely, and with full legal equality.
With this support, we will remain unwavering in our commitment to legal reform rooted in human rights and in powering leaderful movements across the globe.
This gift is an investment in the future we’re building, where every woman and girl can live with dignity and are free to flourish, and where equality lifts us all.
MacKenzie Scott believes in this mission, and we know others do too. If you are ready to invest in bold, systemic change with measurable global impact, we invite you to stand with us.
Thank you, MacKenzie.
