This submission details our concerns with regard to laws related to rape and other forms of sexual violence and procedures and practices which effectively deny access to justice for survivors of sexual violence, in violation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (‘the Convention’). Specifically, we are recommending questions to be asked of Bhutan by the Committee and offering recommendations on the legal and procedural changes required to make sure that perpetrators of sexual violence are brought to justice and that survivors have access to justice.
